What is the best route from Chandigarh to Kasol?

$

0
Hi All,

After having made a Leh trip last summer, I've always wanted to go to Kasol. Will be flying/taking a train to Chandigarh this June and then renting a bike to Kasol. It would be great if someone can address the below queries

1. What bike would be recommended to rent given that I will be riding with a pillion throughout this route?
2. How are the roads in general and which route is recommended?
3. Are there enough local tyre waalas in case of punctures in HP?
4. Any idea about the weather in June?

Any other tips/suggestions are welcome. Cheers!

Dear All,

Cruiser - The first thing which might hit you is Royal Enfield. Not anymore though. We always like to have options. With India opening up to International Brands and customers are more than willing to shell hefty amounts to buy those mean machines. Talk about the Harleys, the Indian Motorcycles, Triumphs,Suzuki,Yamaha and UM ( the latest the join the band wagon), every company has its own pros and cons. On the same lines, we have always welcomed each and every brand based on its own distinct features and their respective merits. What pains (ok, thats a strong word) me is how this particular Company has missed out and is still missing out on this opportunity. Honda - Our Household name, Firangi Maruti - the name that we trust, the name which has given us joy, worry free rides for more than a decade.

Honda is that one brand which you can associate with Trust. Indian's have embraced the brand Honda so much so that, it is currently the best selling two wheeler in India. When an unknown brand can make an impact in terms of sales and After Sales/Service, Honda, I believe, can almost eliminate the entire competition. Mind you, they have a stupendous lineup of power bikes and cruisers.

My question is *- what is stopping Honda from bringing the beasts to the Indian consumers?

Thanks n Advance *

I am 5'3. 23 yrs and graduated. I already own a hero maestro from 2012. Now I am looking to buy a bike for long distance commute like 40kms to and fro and a once in a month long drive for 200+ kms. It's my first bike and I am still a beginner in biking. I will also be keeping my scooter. I haven't decided the body. I am OK with cruiser, commuter and sports.
I have a thing for R15 v2. But I think for long commutes and pillion comfort it won't be appropriate (Though people do tour on R15 but still for pillion it's not comfortable). Apart from these I have listed
Honda CB Hornet
Suzuki gixxer
FZs v2
TVS Apache RTR (because of ABS)
Avenger street 220 and cruiser 220.

The Southern Hurricane, Malaysian Sbk Champion, struggles due to lack of love from his own people.

Do you know the man below? Yes, a familiar face you say, but who exactly is he?

He is Rajini Krishnan, a veteran racer. Know more about him here:- Rajini Krishnan - Southern Hurricane - xBhp.com xBhp.com

Today, the situation is so bad that the crowd funded racer could just accumulate Rs. 60,000 for the participation, before media agencies spread the word further and this figure went upto approx 1.32 Lacs, which still falls short of the target.

This is a country, where people are ready to spend Rs. 2000 on a movie with family, but can't find the budget to show some helpful love to their own Ace Racer...
And today, he has request for you all:-

Quote:

My name is Rajini Krishnan.
I am the most successful indian motorcycle racer with considerable international success in my 14 year racing career.
I am also a ;

9 time Indian National Road Racing Champion,
2006 Malaysian Super series 150 cc Champion,
2013 Qatar 600 cc supersports champion.

Achievements:

Nine time Indian National Road Racing Champion in multiple categories .From 2003 to 2012
First Indian to win an overseas motorcycle racing championship
Overseas appearances and podiums include:

Champion - 2015 Malaysia Super bike championship (1000 cc)
Finished Qatar SBK 1000 cc championship (2015- 2016) in 4th position.
Has got a Podium (2nd place) in just his 2nd year on a 1000 cc superbike there

Champion - Losail Asian Championship – Qatar: 600cc (2012 - 2013)

First Indian to take part in FIM World Endurance 24 Hours Championship – 2010
First Indian to win podium - 3rd place in ARRC (FIM Asian Championship)-600cc - 2009
2nd in championship in Malaysian Super Series - 600cc- 2008
Champion : Malaysian Super Series -150 cc – 2006

I plan to compete in the MALAYSIA SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 to retain the title. The Championship starts in May 2016. The calender : Sepang International Circuit - 2016 MSC CALENDAR.

Why Crowdfunding ?

Corporate sports sponsorship for Motorsports is very hard to come by especially for an individual sportsman from India .
I have been supported by my fans all my career with almost no corporate sponsorship. This time too, I am confident Indian sports lovers, motorsport enthusiasts and my fans will not fail me. Please support me as much as you can. No amount is small. Every little amount will go in a big way to support me.
The list of funders will be displayed in my RACR website in the supporters’ page.

Funds utilisation

Payment to the Malayasia based Chia Motoracing P.J race team ( Chia Motor PJ | MSBK Superbike Group A Overall Championship 2015 ) for the Kawasaki Ninja ZX10 R Bike , mechanics support , spares and parts support etc - Rs 14,00,000/-
My Flight ,travelling and stay in Malaysia during the events - Rs 2,00,00/-
Championships 2016 = Malayasian Superbike Championship
Number of rounds = 5
Yearly Sponsorship required (RS) = Rs. 16,00,000

My requirement is Rs 16,00,000/- . But i am hoping i can raise part of the amount through Ketto.org initially. Hoping corporates will be able to sponsor some of the balance amount.

Which Scooter ?

Hi Guys,

I wil try to keep it short and simple. I need a scooter because I have to carry stuff all the time and carrying my bag and other things is the only reason I am going for a scooter. Else I would have bought a bike:

  1. Budget: 60K +- 10K
  2. Body: mid-age, average height, thin and lean guy :)
  3. Intended usage: 100% pure office communting.
  4. Fuel Efficiency requirement: the more the better
  5. City & Highway percentage usage: 90% city, 10% highway
  6. Approximate Daily running: 30km
  7. City: Hyderabad
  8. Preference: Nope. No concerns of brand/look/style/racing/touring/Racetrack-usage/ Weekend-recreation-riding/

Ther are several priorities:
  • carrying bag and other stuff
  • comfort in riding
  • good mileage

Day1-

Life is pretty lame for many of us with the same monotonous lifestyle. Though I won't specify the time frames of monotony here just coz earlier it was 9-5 jobs and now it's freggin every working individual regardless of the time..

Though there is different breed of people who call themselves bikers, with flashy gadgets on the helmets, suited up head to toe with riding gear which is a great stuff but especially from Mumbai where do u ride! Lonavala, Lavasa or max to max charoti? I mean what are you trying to prove and to whom.. To the people who actually don't give a shit about you. Riding to nearby locations again and again in the groups of dozens, does that really make you a biker?

For me biker is a person who is wandering without a reason to show off. Who believes is exploring new and offbeat places. Who believes in meeting up new people. Who chooses very carefully asto who he is gonna ride with, coz on the road you gotta watch each other's back in every situation. You can't have someone who won't stand with you in a situation of a bike break down just coz it's too hot.coming to the actual point there are less bikers than posers now a days and this has been the situation the the recent 2-3 years at the max.Stop being posers and feel what the real aura is of being a biker.

It started off with a call on a monotonous day from sourabh, well defining sourabh a guy with a bit of gray hair in his mid 30's. Veteran rider who has been riding for 12+ years and I happen to meet him on one of the Xbhp G2G's 2 years back..Plan was to ride to gokarna and murudeshwar with 3 days in hand.post discussion we decided that 3 days is a pretty tight schedule considering hot climate and road condition being a long weekend. I was the first guy he approached for this ride so it was gonna be a yes without any question. Soon with 20 days in hand for planning we were joined by abhijeet ( rides a 390 recently back from ladakh and have explored rajasthan) so we were sure he will be able to cope up.sanket mahure ( shotty with an R15, this insane guy managed to reached dhanushkodi solo from Mumbai and back) well he also had an history in xbhp of not been able to join the rides on the decided time but to reach the venue solo regardless of the time which means literally post midnight.. But that definitely changed with this ride. And last but not the least karan ( got a 220 kinda newbie with not much experience of riding with a group or high speed highway runs apart from his recent ride to velneshwar

Plan as to meet at palaspe phata (welcome hotel) at 3am. Though all being from the xbhp background we assembled by 3.30 and started the ride at 4am.it was relatively humid but the excitement for ride was enough to keep all of us cool.Riding on NH4 is always an adrenaline experience for me. 5 riders riding in single line formation all by themselves as formation was not discussed earlier was mere experience that each of us had within ourselves. Cool breeze hitting the face with proper 4 lane road and cruising at 110-120 we were soon ahead of lonavala. Plan was to cover as much as distance possible in the early hours coz our speed will be dropped in the later part of the day due to weather changes and everything was just perfectly aligned.post lonavala was our first halt for water and tea.

I remember telling abhi that I can feel something wrong with the rear tyre as I was loosing traction on the curves.though he suggested me not to check the tyre pressure now begin hot tyre. But we Indians are always famous for not listening to the suggestions and going with the instincts.post our first halt I decided to check pressure on a fuel pump and this ****er screwed up big time.something was wrong with his Guage which made sure that tyre pressure is dropped by 5 points than what I told him. Which I definitely raised layer, while I was hung up due to this tyre rest of the group zoomed ahead and it took me good 20-30 kms to catch up with them. I was not able to run on high speeds due to wobbling on the rear.the ghat which is just before vai, was my worst riding experience as I had to literally get on the speeds on 40s to take a turn and was unable to lean..decided to halt at a decent place for breakfast and enjoyed some great misal.everyone was cursing me for my goof up on the tyre. While everyone was getting ready to get back on the road again post breakfast, I looked for a tyre guy and he gave me a shock that it's low by 5 points against what I actually wanted it to be. All the previous guy who checked my tyre was wonderful words from my mouth. We tanked up fuel and back on the road again..while I was riding on these roads my memories were getting right on front of my eyes from the not so recent kochi ooty ride. With some great tracks from tomorrowland playing in the earphones and absolute no oops moments on the road till now. We crossed kolhapur.

Few calls to the dear ones and sourabhs call to his office we decided to move ahead and halt for fuel some where near nipani ( as per my last experience fuel was cheaper by 4 bucks their) crossed nipani and the much needed fuel and water break was needed with no water in the hydration packs.

It was almost 1pm when we were in nipani and as per maps we were still 3 hours from the destination..these wet wipes karan is showing in the above pic was a great freshener. It was a heaven feeling with extreme hot outside the shade and cold feeling on the face which also felt very very fresh.. I'm so gonna carry them for all my next rides. With temperature shooting up and not sure about the route my phone was mounted on the handle bars with sudden music stop and the phone for switched off.pulled over to check what the problem was as I was riding on the tail from nipani..

The phone was literally getting ****ed up and fried.had to wait for few minutes to let it cool down and also to hydrate myself with some water. After a turn from belgaum we were lost in the city as we were following the maps and it showed us the shortest route. Well that's great but what if the route is going through a ****ing vegetable market. The situation was like people shopping for groceries and 5 rides honking to get free way and also asking locations as the phone heated up again. I could Sense the level of discomfort within the rest trying to maneuver those bikes with loaded saddlebags on both sides on a vegetable market at 2pm in belgaum with the sun at its peak of temperature. After logs and lots or asking and U turns we were finally on the route where the road to and dandeli chorla divides.. Took a break with still 150 kms to go.

We decided to take less breaks to cut down on time wastage and continue towards the destination. I am actually doing injustice by describing the roads ahead of this point till dandeli in words. Entire 150kms was a forest region with single roads thick forests on both sides and cruising speeds of 110. Wow what a feeling it was, Views were spectacular with greenery around everywhere, monkeys playing with each other on the sides and 5 riders riding in sync with each other and munching miles after miles. it was 5 in the evening when we reached dandeli.. Initially we were completely ****ed up cuz dandeli was supposed to be a forest region where we were gonna camp on a river side wherein what we were looking at is a proper township with houses and buildings. I was like wtf and checked the maps again to see if we are in the correct location after riding for so long . Well yes we were on the correct location and this is how it was gonna be as per the reality as none of us have visited this place earlier . Standing at a junction trying to think what to do we managed to ask a guy about what we thought this place was gonna be like v/s what it was .. He was a savior.

He told us about a place which is on the banks of Kali river with a complete setup of camping and the will be providing us food for the night and breakfast next morning for 600. With absolute no options we all were down to the plan and started to ride at this place which was around 3 Kms from the main city junction. It's crocodile hunch resorts.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post at xbhp. Have been a follower since 2013. I want honest suggestions regarding my upgrade to a 250cc or more capacity bike. Primary objectives are short city rides and comfortable touring with pillion. Budget is within 4lacs. Opted out KTM RC as a track focused beast. Currently I am considering these bikes --

Benelli TNT 300

Honda CBR 250r

Duke 390 with the latest slipper clutch n radiator fan upgrade

Please inform me about the pros and cons, typical mileage figures and maintenance cost

Introduction - Am Lokesh from Mumbai - new to xbhp

Hello Friends,

Am Lokesh Rele, 29 years old from Mumbai and I am very happy to be a member on XBHP.

Bikes owned in past:-

Honda Stunner ( 2010 to 2013 )
Yahama R15 V2 ( 2013 to 2016 February )

Currently am riding Honda CB unicorn 150 relaunched 2016 model

Many of you might be having a question that why I sold Yahama R15 and than took Honda unicorn. Actually I had some medical issues (Surgery) in past and after that doctor advised me not to ride bike for 2 months.

As R15 is having very aggressive/lean riding posture I didn’t find it comfortable to ride for longer duration after surgery and I noticed some pain in surgical area after long rides so with a very heavy heart I sold it.

Few Rides done in past:-

Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai
Mumbai-Alibaug-Mumbai
Mumbai-Pali-Mumbai
Mumbai-Revdanda-Mumbai
Mumbai-Malshej-Mumbai

Am looking forward for long ride in this year & also looking forward to make new friends here.

cheers :)

Upgrading from RE TBTS 350 2009 vintage

Hey mates! I have keenly followed Xbhp since inception & love the community that has evovled around it. I am of 1967 vintage and used to ride an AX 100 from Ind Suzuki & more recently a Thunderbird 2009 edition. I want to now upgrade my ride. The terms of reference being:- sub 2 lakh INR budget, primary use short city hops, looking forward to using it for longer rides 300-500 kms to explore South India where i am based presently, need a stress free, vibe free ride with smooth acceleration, enough torque to carry out highway overtaking when required, comfy pillion for wifey. Following various forums on Xbhp i have homed on to the following rides that seem to fit the bill....Honda CBR 250, Himalayan, Mojo and the TB 500. For test drives of each i shall really have to make a huge effort as i am in South Kerala, Mavelikkara. My apprehensions on these rides are the Honda seems to be on its way out so maybe after sales service could be an issue and i keep reading about indifferent service pers/centres. Second the Himalyan has so much to love but its just been launched, prudence dictates to wait and watch, less power available with a pillion for company, lack of tubeless tyres and FI system casts some doubts. The Mojo on paper the specs and TD seems to be good but after sales service is a question mark Mahindra being new to the game. The RE TB 500 i have added reluctantly as it may have vibes and stressed acceleration, also quite a few riders point to tailbone aches. So there it is mates, my first post on Xbhp!! I am reaching out to the experts, veteran riders to help in clarifying my mind as i need to get back on the saddle and chase my dreams

Hello,

Greetings to all members! I am from Chennai and am fond of bikes and long rides, but never got time or opportunity to be part of a biker group.

I have been frequenting this forum for quite a while, but signed up a day ago after I booked the Suzuki Gixxer SF Rear Disc.

I intend to do some aftermarket modding to the Gixxer SF, starting with headlight and need some inputs from the fellow Xbhpians.

Hoping to have a great knowledge sharing here!

Watering Eyes - How to avoid ?

Hello everyone.

I am an average rider doing anywhere between 100 -150 kms daily on 100 -150cc bikes. (In the city)

I have noticed that my eyes get watery very soon, even at rest.
And this condition gets aggravated when i ride.(esp. In delhi's summer)

Till yesterday i was doing fine but today in the morning when i was stuck in traffic (helmet/jacket/gloves/knee guards on) suddenly my eyes started tearing up. I tried not to blink because i knew it will only get worse with the sweat getting in the mix..... But i couldn't hold it any longer and then my eyes really started to burn with uncontrollable tears.
So much that i couldn't see 1 feet in front of me and my gloves were dirty with all the riding etc. And the signal turned green and i was almost clueless where i was heading.
It was scary for a moment, with traffic moving ahead on either side.
I headed to my left and stopped and took off my helmet & gloves and wiped my face with clean tissues and the situation was resolved.

I don't know if anyone of you got such issues. But this was the first time when it got this bad.

Any suggestions ?

(I don't wear glasses and my helmet has a sun screen visor too)

Cheers.

Itinerary queries for planning Pune - Goa ride

Disclaimer: I am not a seasoned tourer. Still trying to learn the basics and not much familiar with the maintenance part of bike with a max one day attempt of 450 kms.

So I am planning to ride from Pune to Goa early monsoon times. Please provide your suggestions with following questions so that I can plan my ride in best way

1. Which is the best route to take? Is the route through NH 4 via Kolhapur is the best to take or is there some coast scenic approach too?

2. What will be the road conditions during early monsoon?

3. What would be the places that can be seen along the way?

4. What is the level of mechanical support available on the way? Or what should be the mandatory tools and spares that I should keep for an emergency or breakdown

5. Which part of Goa is better to explore in monsoon times? I have been to the commercially famous side of Goa, all off beat suggestions are welcome

Thanks in advance
