This motorcycle film has been racking up awards over the years since it was first released in 2012, the latest award being that from the 2015 Motorcycle Film Festival in New York in September. Besides this the film has received awards from All Sports Film Festival, Los Angeles, Barcelona International Sports Film Festival, Tyrolean Independent Film Selection, Innsbruck, Milano International 2013, Tiger Paw Sports Film Festival New Delhi and ASE Awards 2013.
The film highlights the journey of Christophe Barriere-Varju, a 39 year old businessman who decided to participate in the Dakar Rally. The movie depicts his struggle for sponsorship as much as it highlights the hardship of the rally. As a youngster Christophe was a junior champion motocross rider in Africa and later on moved to Australia. But his dream was always to participate in the Dakar Rally.
2006 saw him participate for the first time in the Dakar Rally, where he broke his ribs, cracked his knee, broke his nose and dislocated his shoulder before he pulled out from the rally. He couldn't complete the rally in that year and so he returned in 2007 to finish a credible 56th. 2008 saw the Dakar Rally being cancelled before it was shifted in 2009 to South America where he came 52nd.
This film shows his journey in the run-up to the 2010 Dakar Rally. The film was shot before and during the 2010 edition and was released in 2012. You can check out the trailer of Dream Racer at the top of the page.
