Hello Xbhpians

Hi everyone,

I'm Koushik, a software engineer by profession and a biker by passion. I spend most of my days at Chennai and the rest by riding to various destinations within south india. I came across this wonderful motorcycling community when I was lying in bed for a month after an accident which took toll on my right knees.

To begin my story, It was 5 years ago when I found the biking therapy to be the best way to kill my semester stress. I started my biking therapy on a honda unicorn which was presented to me for completing a year in my college without any arrears.Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page.

Initially, like every other college kid I was showing off my ride and riding skills by pulling off wheelies and provoking drags at every signals. Later then, I realized the importance of riding responsibly and also the importance a good quality lid-jacket-gloves-knee guards which happened to be the first purchase from my first salary.Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page.
Since I was studying in a college which was 80 kms away from my home, I had the opportunity to stay with my friends and ride on weekends to a nearby hill station. This instigated a thirst for touring on motorbikes after which I have been on 3 big road trips.

After four years of extensive riding on my unicorn the quench for more power showed a glimpse inside my heart. It was a tough task to decide between the KTM Duke 200 and the Pulsar 200ns which were selling like cigarettes outside an IT company. After multiple visits to the showrooms and test rides, it was the austrian pocket rocket which made its way to my home.
Ever since I bought the duke, I have started taking the longest route to my office, weekend rides to destinations with lots of curves and I just couldn't resist ripping it...until last month. And there ends my story.

I'm here to ride with fellow bikers and also to get a few hardcore-neighbourhood biker buds who will ride with me in storm, flood, earthquake, tsunami, and traffic.Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page.

A souped-up Royal Enfield Continental GT has set a new Land Speed record in the 500MPPS (Modified Pushrod Partially Streamlined) category, clocking an average unofficial speed of 157.2 kmph. Matt Capri's souped-up Royal Enfield Continental GT, ridden by Nadine de Freitas has modifications to cam shafts, the cylinder head, throttle bodies, piston and exhaust system.

The engine's power output increased to over 60PS and compression ration was increased as well.

Quote:

"The great thing about the Continental GT is its chassis and its price point. If you choose to increase the horsepower output, the chassis will handle the additional horsepower. The brakes are exceptional, the frame is exceptional, and it comes with advanced rear suspension,, performance tuner and former motorcycle champion racer Matt Capri said
in a video. The Speed Week at Bonneville, earlier scheduled to take place from August 9-15 was cancelled due to heavy rain in the area. The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) - organizers of the event - had announced that Speed Week will be clubbed as a week-long event with the World Finals to take place in late September.

However, motorcycle speed runs started last weekend after volunteers from Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials prepared three tracks where racing ensued on August 24.

What this does, is that apart from making the motorcycle look good, it has the added advantage of looking bigger and more imposing. The result is the Hayate offers a much smoother ride as well as improved mileage.

On the convenience front, the new Hayate now comes with a Maintenance Free Battery as well as tubeless tyres with broader rims. This will translate into hassle-free convenience for the rider as well as a much more stimulating and stable ride.

The Hayate will be available in the market at a price of Rs 44,969 Ex-Showroom-Delhi.

Suggestion for New Bike purchase

Hello everyone,

I am in search of a new bike which satisfies my need. I have previously owned Honda Shine (6 months), pulsar 180 (2.5 yrs). I recently parted my ways with my beautiful black stallion (p 180) and now planning to have something else in the stead. The following bikes are being considered as a replacement.
1. Honda trigger
2. fz/fz-16
3. apache 180 abs only (purely for safety purposes).

My requirements are
1. should be reliable for next 4-5 years.
2. should be a balanced bike and excellent in handling and braking departments
3. rear disc would be nice but can give up if the handling is exceptional (e.g. fz)
4. low maintenance and decent on FE (~40kmpl is enough). I do not ride aggressively and am a sane rider.
5. Budget 80-90k (can stretch to accomodate apache 180 abs).
3. Should have a kick start (no cold start problems)

My brain says buy honda trigger and get over, but my heart desires something more beautiful (in terms of design; not sedate).

Contrary what you hear from people, i loved my Pulsar 180. It was just an awesome machine, heavy and was stable on high speeds. I loved it! Two things i hated was that it was heavy at the front end. The sporty or nearly sporty stance during braking sometimes made me lose balance. Second thing, was the cold start problems. Could never start during winter. I absolutely hated it during November-February. Had to always ask someone to push. God!! It was dysmal. However, it never gave me any maintenance problems. Got it serviced every 3 months/3000 km (which ever is earlier) religiously.

I have two questions in this regard...

1. Is the fz rear tyre a hassle or a boon? While i understand that it is an outstanding machine i do not want to buy a bike thinking about puncture everyday.
2. I hate vibes, and does the apache 180 abs (2014 model) vibrate a lot. if it does in the 50-70kmph region then i want to put it off as well.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions

Suzuki GSR250F breaks cover

The Suzuki GSR250F is the full faired version of the Suzuki Inazuma and has been launched in the Japanese market

Suzuki has unveiled the new GSR250F in the Japanese two-wheeler market. The Suzuki GSF250 is the full faired version of the Suzuki Inazuma motorcycle which is on sale in our country. The new offering is the third 250cc offering from Suzuki after the street bike offering – GSR250 (Inazuma in India) and the half faired motorcycle – GSR250S.

Changes made on the Suzuki GSF250F is restricted to the cosmetic front and apart from the new full-faired body, the bike also gets equipped with raised handlebars to better suit the touring dynamics of the motorcycle. The Suzuki Inazuma wasn’t the most pretty looking motorcycles in the market but the new fairing has made the GSR250F visually more pleasing. The fairing and windscreen should provide the rider with better protection from windblast at high speeds which enhances the touring capability of the new bike.

No changes have been made on the mechanical front and the Suzuki GSR250F will be powered by the same 250cc motor as seen on the Inazuma. The liquid-cooled, parallel-twin mill churns out 26PS of max power and torque rating stands at 24Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox while braking responsibilities are taken care of by Nissin disc brakes at front and rear. The Suzuki GSR250F employs semi double-cradle chassis, and features telescopic forks at the front and seven-way adjustable mono-shock suspension at the back. The fairing has hiked the kerb weight by 6kg and the Suzuki GSR250F tips the scale at 189kg.It isn’t clear whether Suzuki will launch the GSR250F in our market or not. Given the fact, that the Suzuki Inazuma has the makings of good touring bike, the added fairing will not only boost its touring capabilities but also amplify its visually appeal.

xBhp rides the recently launched Yamaha FZ-s Fi and finds out if it is an upgrade to the older model.

Text: Avinash Noronha (The Monk)

The Yamaha FZ had taken Generation Y’s imagination by storm when it was first launched in India in 2008. With its aggressive street naked styling, fat rear tyre and a fatter fuel tank, the bike raised the bar for other manufacturers to follow. Added to it was the Yamaha build quality, and the company had a winner on its hands. After many minor visual updates over the past 6 years, the Japanese manufacturer has finally answered the fervent prayers of its fans and brought out a revamped bike to once again make a splash in the Indian market. Is the new bike worth being called an upgrade? Let’s find out!

The bike looked great in its original avatar and Yamaha has been smart in not making too many changes. It maintains its trademark aggressive looks, but adds a touch of finesse to the package. The front of the bike gets a facelift with a new sharper headlight dome, and that is just the start of the sharpness! The console is now a clean meter with none of the ‘videogamish’ colours on it. All the information that one wants is clearly visible even in bright sunlight on the all-digital display. The new addition is an ‘Eco’ meter which lets you know when you are riding in the economy range of the bike - a useful feature for those who use this motorcycle to commute. The switches and plastic quality is as expected from Yamaha, though the RVMs do stand out as a trifle cheap in comparison to the rest of the build and also in terms of aesthetics. The tank, tailpiece, taillight and grab rail have all been given the edgy treatment and do add to the visual appeal of the bike. The differences are not drastic, but do add a youthful touch to the V2.0. Some people might find the rear tyre hugger to be very drab as it hides the rear tyre and robs a bit of the macho attitude of the motorcycle. The all new split seats on the other hand are a welcome change in the looks department and give the bike a more purposeful look as compared to its predecessor.

The very neat and clear Instrument Cluster

But the real update to the motorcycle lies under the tank in the form of the Blue Core Technology being used in the bike. The Blue Core technology is not so much a new technology as a different outlook towards design. Yamaha, like other manufacturers, have understood that in this category of motorcycles, fuel efficiency will always be a factor. And this is the underlying focus right from the R&D stage itself. Where the engine is designed not just for maximum power, but also towards improving efficiency and reducing emissions. And to this end, Yamaha have succeeded by increasing efficiency by a claimed 14% and bringing down CO2 emissions by 29% as well as reducing the engine weight by around 1.5 kg. Impressive things which are not immediately apparent. Instead of the carburettor, the new FZ now runs on fuel injection. It has made the throttle response on the motorcycle far better. The power is delivered smoothly across the rev range and one does not feel any sudden surge of power or flat spots when accelerating. Hidden in this upgrade is a development that people normally do not expect in an upgrade - a drop in power! Yes, the V2.0 gets a marginally smaller engine down to 149cc from the earlier 153cc engine, with a drop in power by 1Ps. On paper, this sounds bad, but in real world conditions you just won’t notice, thanks to the smoother power delivery and the fantastic chassis that the company has designed. In fact both these things go a long way in making the FZ V 2.0 a better package to navigate through the crowded urban traffic, where this motorcycle will find itself most of the time. Yamaha also claims that the motorcycle will be 14% more fuel efficient compared to its previous iteration - a good move indeed in a ‘mileage’ sensitive market where fuel prices are increasing on a daily basis. The youngsters, for whom fuel efficiency is a major deciding factor, will now find it even harder to ignore the FZ.

The extremely well sorted out Yamaha engine

The ride quality of the FZ-s V2.0 is excellent and leaves the rider more than just satisfied. The bike is balanced perfectly and with the new diamond frame and now Fi engine, the bike can be turned on a dime. The V2.0 also sheds some 3 kg to make it an even sweeter proposition. The bike handles like a dream and is a complete point and shoot package, never giving the rider anything to fret about. The tyres from MRF do a wonderful job in the dry and stick to the tarmac under hard braking as well as some spirited cornering. And we also had the chance to take it out for a spin in the dirt and the tyres held their own along with the plush suspension giving a composed feeling when bumping around in the mud. The flip side is the rear drum brake; we did hope to see the V2.0 sport a disc at the rear and are a tad disappointed, though this would of course increase costs. The split seats are broad, soft yet firm and give both the rider and pillion a reason to be happy, at least on short city rides. Whether it is flicking the bike through traffic or taking corners too enthusiastically, the bike feels sure footed at all times and reminds you that it is a true blue Yamaha! The slightly shorter overall length and wheelbase of the bike helps in change of direction, though it does not take anything away from its straight line stability.

Riding posture of the FZ-S Fi is extremely comfortable even for a tall rider

The bike's neutral handling is a boon off tarmac

The lil red thing that helps you ignore the numerous potholes that dot our roads

Drum Brakes were effective, but no disc brake is a disappointment

The front brake gives good feedback even while braking hard

The pillion seat is extremely comfortable, even though it is a split seat

Version 2.0 a big improvement

Good quality switch gear

Is the FZ-s V2.0 a real upgrade over the original? Well we do think so. The revamped Blue Core engine, the Fi, new lighter frame, stickier MRF tyres and fresh styling make it a worthwhile upgrade. What makes it an even better deal is that this bike would cost only around five thousand more than its predecessor. Well worth the extra dough you have to shell out. The motorcycle is available in 4 new colours – Astral Blue, Moonwalk White, Cyber Green and Molten Orange. Though how will the Yamaha fans react to the reduced power and engine capacity is yet to be seen.

downrating battery ?

I have a 2010 Unicorn which was originally fitted with a 7 AH regular battery. I has lasted on for so far but only with regular trickle charging etc. Now I wish to move over to SMF battery. I am very inclined to select 5 AH SMF battery from either Tata Green or Amaron and since that can fit in the original battery case, it is also very tempting for me.

What are the drawbacks of going in for a 5 AH battery in a CB Unicorn except for the fact that maybe one will have to give up on a bit of storage backup. But won't also the smaller battery get charged faster. And in any case these batteries last for 2 years at the best after which they start losing capacity. So is it a big giveaway to sacrifice 2 AH of reserve power ?

Scoop! Yamaha fazer fi v2.0

Following up with the launch of the FZ/FZ-S models in India, Yamaha is all to launch the Fazer FI V2.0 in the country by the end of September. Essentially a half faired version of the FZ street-fighter motorcycle, the Fazer gets the same underpinnings as the FZ and will also retain the mechanicals from its naked sibling. In its second outing though, the Fazer 2.0 gets comprehensive updates to the half-fairing, while the rest of the motorcycle is the same as the FZ 2.0.

While retaining the existing design, the lines are sharper and the twin-headlights have a subtle flare on the half-fairing of the 2014 Fazer. Yamaha has cleverly included the faux air scoops from the FZ V2.0 into the half-fairing of the 2014 Fazer, lending a sportier look to the bike. There is also the inclusion of new racing body graphics on the side to complete the new look. The new fairing coupled with the updated FZ’s design manage to look quite appealing, while the leaner design will only add to the agility of the motorcycle.
The Yamaha Fazer also shares it powertrain with the new FZ V2.0 and draws power from the 149cc single-cylinder motor with fuel injection technology that produces 13.1 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 12.8 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox. Yamaha has also incorporated its new Blue Core technology that promises improved fuel efficiency and power on the bike. We did hope to see a bit more power to come on the Fazer, but considering a weight reduction of 3 kgs (current Fazer weighs 141 kgs), there will be improvement in performance.
In terms of suspension, the 2014 Yamaha Fazer V2.0 gets telescopic front forks and a monoshock setup at the rear. The bike rides on 100/80.17 tyre at the front, while the rear gets 140/60/17 tyre from MRF. Stopping power comes from a front disc brake and rear drum brake. There is still no signs of a rear disc brake, much to our disappointment. Keeping the tourers happy, the Fazer 2.0 will come with a 12-litre fuel tank and an impressive range of around 500 kms, while also offering smoother power delivery over its predecessor.
With the inclusion of fuel-injection technology, we were not very surprised to see the significant jump in the Yamaha FZ V2.0’s prices and expect the same with the Fazer V2.0 as well. While the 2014 FZ-S retails at Rs. 82,396/-, the 2014 Fazer FI V2.0 will be priced around Rs. 88,000/- (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai); competing against the likes of the TVS Apache RTR 160, Suzuki Gixxer and Honda’s upcoming 160cc motorcycle. The Fazer will be available in three colour options namely red dawn, white cloud, and black hawk.

It was a long time I did not ride anywhere and was missing the highway badly. After a lot of plans & plan fails , me along with 3 of my fellow xbhpian bikers decided to ride Srisailam , one of the spectacular hill stations in Andhra Pradesh. Srisailam is located at a distance of about 250 kms from Hyderabad.

Preparation - We carried sufficient water & few other liquids to keep our selves hydrated & energetic all through the day.Name: 20140811_050718.jpg

We met at a common meeting point in Mehadipatnam at 6:40am in the morning from where we started our journey towards Srisailam.Name: 20140811_064121.jpg

The weather was cool and pleasant and the sky was averagely cloudy. We moved towards the RGI Airport. Soon after crossing the Airport , we were on the narrow State highway. The was a beautiful ride through the rural areas , beautiful landscapes all around which were mostly green due to recent showers in and around Hyderabad.

[What Bike]: Royal Enfield Classic 350 or Classic 500?

I am planning to buy Royal Enfield. Last time i booked Classic 350 and i cancelled my booking because some of my friends said about the bad after sales service and motorcycle complaints and stuffs(Two of them couldn't ride their motorcycles after getting it and another friend had engine problems in his classic 350 ). Then my mind diverted to Duke 200 but each time an RE passes by, my heart just diverts back. Planning to book Classic 350 again but many people saying it has lots of complaints (I even witnessed one customer shouting to RE people that they used his ride which was given for servicing). Many are saying to take Standard 350 or 500. But i like the looks of classic more than standard (a personal choice). I TD Classic 350, CL500 and STD 500 today and i felt more comfortable with 350 (felt more vibes in STD 500 and CL500, may be because of the condition of TD motorcycle they gave me). Showroom guy told CL500 is tough for the mechanics outside since it FI. (One thing i liked CL500 is that it has fuel meter but its inaccurate). Desert Storm doesn't have a color warranty. :(

My needs are:
1) City riding(85% of a month) and weekends trips (may be long trip in near future :) )
2) Comfort (Not opting for thunderbird since not my style).
3) Fuel Efficiency (Higher will be appreciated)

I want to know whether Classic 350 is more than enough (or should i go for CL500) and i have heard loys of complaints on that model even from showroom guys. Friends, what's your views?
And can i change the foot pegs and headlight of Classic to that of Thunderbird's?
Can you help me by pointing out the negatives and positives of CL 350 and CL500 and which would you suggest?

Thanks in advance

[What Bike]: KTM DUKE 200 or PULSAR 200 NS

Hiii Xbhpians iam going to sell my current bike p220 in a month & going to buy different street fighter light bike like D200 OR P200 NS but confused about my decision
Iam a huge fan of half faired bikes but as for now i feel all the indian half faired bikes looks outdated to me in styling ( my personal opinion) so wanted to try unique looking bikes like p200 ns & d200.

My driving conditions are 80% city and 20 % highways & i want a bike which feels good in the city and also on the highways with good pleasent crusing capabilities.

D200 and P200 NS shares the same engine components except in some dissimilarities so is the duke really worth for investing extra 45-50k??? over 200NS.

How about the service at ktm ? I want to know the all the pros and cons of the two bikes. How about the reliabilty factor of these 2 bikes??

Waiting for your sugestions :).
