TRIUMPH TIGER EXPLORER XCx Launched for Rs 18.75 Lakh Ex-Showroom. The price is the same across the country now, the company had implemented this since GST was introduced.

The market leaders of the Adventure category in India, Triumph Motorcycles launched the Tiger Explorer XCx at Rs. 18,75,000/- (Pan India)

Mr. Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India Pvt Ltd. commented “The Triumph Tiger family has been pivotal in building the adventure riding category and culture in India. With over 800 customers in the country Triumph does not just deliver great motorcycles, we also create an ecosystem in which the rider is equipped with the skill sets to ride deftly and safely. Our initiatives like the Triumph Tiger Trails and our Tiger Training Academies stand testament to this. As the pioneer in this category, the remarkable Tiger Explorer XCx with its state-of-the-art features and rider focused technology is suited for both on and off road riding, ensuring superb stability and control. It is a bike that allows riders to tailor their desired adventure, to go anywhere and everywhere from the daily commute to the corners of the earth.”

The new Triumph Explorer XCx is designed to excel off-road. The XCx model is more than capable of performing in any environment. It offers an unprecedented level of equipment and technology to provide a motorcycle completely prepared for any adventure – no matter the distance or destination.

The Explorer XCx features a 1215cc triple engine, unique in the large capacity adventure segment, delivering its power through a final shaft drive. The triple engine’s power is delivered smoothly and progressively across the rev and speed ranges through its linear torque curve. A torque-assisted clutch makes the clutch action incredibly light, in turn making both long distances and stop-start urban riding less demanding on the rider. The engine performance is also enhanced through a new exhaust system, with a distinctive resonant note.

About the new Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx

The new Tiger Explorer features a host of technological upgrades with a particular emphasis on state-of-the-art active technology to ensure superb stability and control.

These features include:
· Triumph Semi-Active Suspension
· Corner optimised switchable ABS and Traction Control
· The introduction of Rider Modes, including a rider programmable mode

The new Tiger Explorer’s overall performance is given a new level of dynamism through the use of WP adjustable suspension on the two entry level models. The other four models feature the ground-breaking Triumph Semi Active Suspension system. This allows the rider to electronically control the adjustment of the front and rear suspension damping, automatically adapting the rear shock absorber pre-load settings to reflect the terrain being covered and providing optimal grip and drive in any situation.

To give the rider the handling, control and response they want to negotiate well-made roads and broken terrain in all conditions, the Tiger Explorer offers as standard multi-channel switchable ABS and traction control on the XC model.

The Explorer features an Inertial Measurement Unit that, through a series of strategically positioned sensors, monitors and responds to the bike’s movement status, calculates the lean angle of the bikes and uses this measurement to ensure greater stability by optimising the performance of the ABS and traction control systems.

Add to this the choice of different Rider Modes –Sports/ Comfort/ Normal– which alters the configuration of the bike to suit riding style, road and weather conditions.

A new engine with more power, improved handling, rider and active rider-focused technology packaged in the bike with a contemporary look and style that is distinctly its own. Featuring sharp new lines giving a stylish and muscular look and combining to deliver enhanced rider and passenger thermal comfort. The Tiger Explorer XCx introduced a first-in-class electrically adjustable screen that allows the rider to constantly tailor aero protection and comfort whilst riding.

Hello!

Im looking for a bike which is comfortable for touring long distance (500KM) with a pillion.

I currently own a RS200 and it is not comfortable for long distance rides. Specially considering road conditions, it gives bad backache sometimes. Also, maintenance is very high for this bike.

1. Budget: 1.6 Lacs
2. Age: 27
3. Height: 6.00
4. Weight: 75
5. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.): Weekend rides(200KM) and long rides(total 1000KM) once in a while
6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any): N/A
7. City & Highway percentage usage - 20/80
8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running - 500~1000km
9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing): Dombivli, Mumbai
10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any): Any

Im eyeing at Dominar but still looking if there are any cons to it for my requirements or if I can find a better bike for my requirements. Let me know!

Hey Guys,

Logging in after a long time.
I own a RE STD 350 CI(1980 make). She is running fine perfectly no issues whatsoever.
I have a query can i replace the carb on my current CI with the one from the new STD 350 UCE carb?
Current CI carb is Mikuni VM24.
Can i do it?
If i do it will there be any issues?
What would be the price STD 350 UCE carb and what model it is?

I have seen post where people have used P220 carb on their bullets.

Kindly let me know your thoughts about the same.

Regard,

Over since last several years I am regular reader of Tourer section of Xbhp and most of my rides are inspired from the travelogue presented here. Many times even I have thought of sharing my riding experience here in form of travelogue however never able to pen-down it. So this is my first attempt to narrate my short ride to Dandeli which I did it over last weekend.
Last couple of years I have been planning to visit Dandeli during monsoon season with an objective to cover all nearby attractions but most of these plans failed due to lack time available in hand. So this year I have decided that if not in detailed lets’ at least have a short express ride to cover beautiful roads of Anshi National Park and take a round trip via Karwar over weekend.

My Dandeli/Karwar express ride idea has been liked by my RE Riding club member Zatin & I am lucky that I got his company. Together we did couple of long rides in past and knowing Zatin's riding style I was really happy that he will be part of this ride.

Plan got charted and dates got fixed two weeks in advance but ever since then monsoon in Maharashtra specially in Mumbai was in total different mood and created a big question mark on our plan... since this was a express ride with the objective of covering around 1500km in two days heavy rain was a concern. It was quite an easy ride with Friday night start however till Friday afternoon we were not sure to go or not to go due to heavy rains hitting all over Maharashtra. Despite all this our desire and passion of riding has solved this dilemma with just few lines of afternoon whatsap chat...

Me to Zatin... Do u see the rains outside...?
Zatin... Hmm
Me... Do u want to ride in this condition?
Zatin... Do u want to ride in this condition?
Me... I am gonna ride...
Zatin... Same here.... let's roll.

And we started rolling on Friday Night around 10:30pm from Airoli Circle.

Before we start further… A Small Introduction of Riders & Pillion...

Me...(Sandeep) ... Ride RE STD500...ride symphony.. Let's ride til Road ends.

Zatin... Ride RE STD500... ride symphony... show me the road where I have to ride.
Deep (Zatin's Friend).... as pillion... I am obedient pillion... Take me with u.

We three on the top of Mollem National Park Ghat Road..

Heavy monsoon has set the ride mood perfect, we got geared fully in riding & monsoon gears and started tackling slowly and steadily the traffic of Thane-Belapur road and it has accompanied us till the fence of Panvel.

By the time we reached reach Lonavala… Monsoon has ranged its final bell…. It was like he want to warn us…. Go back home guys....I am in totally different mood tonight… we felt rain droops like someone pouring bucket of water from sky.

We took this opportunity to finish the packed sandwiches we got with us for dinner and enjoyed them at foggy.. rainy night at Lonavala. By the time rain has subsided we started rolling towards Satara.

Next break panned was at foothill of Khambataki Ghat… till here rain kept our eyes wide open and steaming tea at Khabataki kept us fresh till we reach to outskirts of Kolhapur.

By early morning we reached at Sai International near Kolhapur and this was our planned halt location for morning refreshments. We were happy with our progress so far and took this opportunity to take lengthy refreshment & breakfast break at Hotel Sai International.

At Sai International

Onward Route for the day was planned as… Kolhapur to Belgao (Via NH4)… Kittur to Haliyal to Dandeli to Joida to Karwar & night halt at Karwar.

We want to cover Anshi National Park, Kali River and down-hills of Karwar before sunset and we were on the track considering we reached at Kolhapur by 7am.

We first felt the spike of sleep almost after 12 hrs of riding and we stopped near Kagal for a 30 minutes power nap which made our onward journey more joyful.

Moderate showers and supper fast NH4 helped us to cruise till Belgaum where we took our next tea break. This break has become fruitful due to yummy Egg Pattice and Slice cake served at small town bakery at Kittur diversion.

First few kilometers from Kittur to Haliyar was having broken surface but it has significantly improved from Haliyar onwards and then almost every corner of hill was covered with Corn Corps. This green carpet was eye soothing.

By lunch time we reached Dandeli town where we braked for lunch and had nice chicken biryani. It was quite lighter on pocket considering its test and quantity…. What else rider need after riding almost 600kms…

Post lunch we started our journey towards Karwar via Joida and Anshi National Park. This section was high point of our ride… rain was playing cats & dogs in the middle of thick forest and curves on roads made us crazy to race with raining clouds and literally we chased them till Karwar. It was worthy decision of riding to this part of Karnataka in such rainy season.

We came across to small water stream connecting to Kali river and we got stunt with crystal clear water and its blue shade… without any delays we simply jump in it and sat in middle of this stream… this was a heavenly experience for our souls and mainly for our bumbs which were extremely tired by resting on bullet seat…..

Entry point of Kali Reserve from Karwar side.

By the time we reached outskirts of Karwar we were still left with good amount of energy and felt we can ride for next couple of hours and target Madgaon (Goa) as a destination for night stay instead of Karwar. This instant decision has added a great amount of flavor to our ride as narrow road from Karwar to Madgaon via Pollem was a treat for any rider. We njoyed a chase of Madgaon at twilight and settled down in small lodge near Madgaon railway station. This part of journey was like bonus for the day and we enjoyed every inch of road from Karwar to Madgaon.

By the end of day one, we have completed almost 775Km however first 500km were felt like 1000 due heavy rains.

Day 2.

Route Planned for Day 2 was, Madgaon to Mollem vi Ponda, Mollem to Belgao and then Mumbai via NH4.

Goa is known to all of us as Beach Paradise and we were also under similar impression until we hit the Mollem road. The section between Mollem to Anmod intersects Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary and it was treat to eyes to cross this part of forest in peak monsoon season. There were multiple waterfalls on hilltop, valley and Ghat roads covered with thick fog. We spent good amount of time on route knowing we can cover this time gap from Belgaon onwards where we are gonna hit superfast NH4 once again.

If in case you are sick with Goan beaches and want to explore something new, trust me guys this part of Goa should ranked first.
After drenching in beauty of Western Ghats we reached towards Belgaon and Google map helped us to navigate from busy streets of Belgao towards NH4.

It was customary lunch stop for ‘Tambada-Pandhara Rusaa & Mutton Bhakri’ (Famous Local cuisines) if you are travelling via Kolhapur and we did not broke this custom and then we started dragging our self to muddy potholed crowded city... And on Sunday 9pm we experienced the worst but known traffic at Mumbai entry point... this made us realised that ride and weekend is over and it's time to plan for next one!!!

Hit the bed with thought in mind…..

Bajaj Pulsar NS160 Review

Bajaj Pulsar NS160 Review

Is this new Bajaj Pulsar NS160, a proper progeny of the NS200 or is it a watered down version which resembles the commuterish Pulsar 150 more than the Naked Sports series? Let's find out!

Riding Gear by: Spartan Pro Gear

After the lacklustre sales of the AS150 and AS200, Bajaj realised it needed to get a little less adventurous and a little sportier with their product portfolio! So the two adventure twins were discontinued and the previously successful NS200 was brought back this January. But that left a gaping hole in the 150cc sports commuter segment, since the original Pulsar 150 is left with no sport but only commuter genes. Bajaj had nothing in response to the Suzuki Gixxer, Yamaha FZ and Honda Hornet, or even the age old Apache 160. TVS will soon be bringing a new 160 based on their Apache 200 as we saw in the pictures clicked by an xBhpian.

Which brings us to the recently launched NS160. A motorcycle meant to fill the void of the newer generation Pulsars and take on the three competitive Japs. A bike targeted at the urban young, who want a good looking bike, which isn’t too heavy on the pocket to purchase or at the petrol pump!

The Looks

Visually the bike looks much like the 200. Which should work in favour of the 160, but will it be at the cost of the bigger bike? If you liked the 200, then this will be equally appealing. The skinny tyres are the visual giveaway of the smaller size of this motorcycle. Though Bajaj has tried to hide this by using a chunkier tyre hugger!

From upfront the bike has good road presence with its big headlight dome visually flowing nicely into the plastic tank extensions. Though the skinny forks remind you that this isn’t the 200. The bike we rode was grey, which looked quite subdued, the other option of red should be far more appealing to the target audience we believe. Build quality of the motorcycle is satisfactory and the switchgear is the same as used on the 200. Which isn’t perfect, the turn-indicator switch doesn’t feel natural to use if you are used to any other bike in the market. You need to re-work muscle memory; else you push the switch, take the turn and realize the indicator light hadn’t got turned on in the first place! An anomaly in the bike we rode was on the oil-cooler plastics, which was loose enough to be pushed off with the strength of a single finger. A stark contrast to the rest of the motorcycle which possibly means this was a one-off with our bike.

The Tech

The differentiation from the older Pulsar 150 comes in the form of new technology. The engine is not all-new, but it isn’t from the old generation Pulsars either. The new engine is the bored out version of the one employed on the now discontinued AS150. The 160.3cc 4-stroke 4-valve oil-cooled twin-spark engine produces a decent power of 15.5 PS and 14.6 Nm of torque. Power is down from 17 bhp and torque is up from 13 Nm in comparison to the AS150. Bajaj has understood that these bikes are commuters at the end of the day. More torque by sacrificing the top end is a positive trade-off when riding in the city. The 2mm increase in the bore makes the NS squarer than the AS, which translates into better rideability for a commuter.

The gearing employed on the bike is also commuter friendly; one can trundle through traffic at 22 kmph in third gear without lugging the engine. In fact, it is easier to ride the 160 than the 200, as the latter forever wants to be revved. The NS160 will happily chug along without protest even with a pillion in traffic. We didn’t get an opportunity to test the top end on the narrow semi-urban roads, but the bike did pull strongly till 80 after which some effort was required. Though this was with a brand new engine which hadn’t been run in. The company claims a top whack of 115 kmph.

The new engine feels nothing like the older generation Pulsars and refinement is a big step up. We rode the bike during the second half of the day after it had been thrashed around by the media in the morning. Even after being meted out with some punishment the engine was smooth, the idling stable and throttle response is crisp. The gearbox is slick, with both upshifts and downshifts causing no trouble at all. The bane of the older bikes, finding neutral when stationary also seems to have been resolved as we found out in peak hour Hinjewadi IT Park traffic!

The frame is the same perimeter unit found on the NS200. Which helps greatly in improving the handling dynamics of the bike, but comes with a weight penalty. It is essentially over-engineered for the 160cc mill, which somewhat explains the up to 10 kg difference over the competition! As with most things engineering, there is a trade-off. Even though the wheelbase is the exact same as the NS200, the swingarm isn’t the same as per Bajaj.

The Ride

How does this new technology translate into the ride on the road? Throw a leg over the rather high saddle, 805mm, and it feels immediately like the NS200. Press the self-start button and the engine immediately comes to life before falling into a steady idle. Fortunately the bike comes with a kick-start lever as well, so you needn’t depend on the battery in cold high-altitude conditions!

The clutch isn’t the lightest out there at first touch, but it has a nice smooth progressive feel to it. Slot the bike into first gear with the toe-only shifter and the bike cleanly pulls off, even with an incline and pillion. The shorter gearing and better torque are the heroes here. Once in motion, the distinction between the 200 becomes apparent. The missing power and the 10 kg less weight gives the bike an entirely different character as compared to its larger sibling. Much easier to throw around without any fear, but try stretching the revs in an overtaking manoeuvre and you are brought back to stark commuter reality!

The area where the bike shines is its handling. It manages to walk the tight rope of urban comfort and sporty handling. The suspension is substantially softer than its larger sibling but can take a reasonable amount of aggression, provided you don’t forget that it is a commuter at the end of the day. Bad roads are no barrier, as the softer suspension capably absorbs all the bumps thrown at it.

Brakes on the NS160 are a mixed bag. The front is sharp, with sufficient bite, but it isn’t progressive. First time disc brake users, of which there will be many, will have a tough time adjusting to the front brakes. More so considering, that the junta is generally scared of using front brakes. The rear employs a drum which ideally should be extinct along with dinosaurs. Unfortunately it isn’t and Bajaj says that a disc should be available at the rear as an option soon. We look forward to that.

What about the skinny tyres? That might be a major downside in the looks department, but once rolling, you just won’t notice. The handling and grip are sufficient for the target audience, without the higher rolling resistance which a 140 section rear tyre brings.

We rode the bike in daylight and therefore aren’t in a position to comment on the headlights efficacy, but with a 55W bulb and the same dome as the 200NS, the result should be consistent with the bigger brother. Fuel consumption as claimed by the company is between 40-45 kmpl, 2-3 kmpl less than the old Pulsar 150.

The Siblings

A question which many of us have is, will this bike be the death knell of the Pulsar 150 and 180? In the grand scheme of things, probably yes. But not as of now. All the Pulsars will be sold simultaneously. A bike with newer and better technology will surely sell more than an out-dated motorcycle right? Not always, as Bajaj found with the Pulsar 220 still outselling the 200NS by a decent margin. The NS160 sits some INR 3000 more than the 150 and INR 1500 less than the Pulsar 180. Would most prospective buyers go for the 20cc more at a marginal price increase? This is going to be a tough sell for the Chakan based company to the average buyer who walks into its showroom.

The Competition

How does it stack up against the 3 Japanese and the Apache 160? We need to wait for the update of the latter as it is at the end of its lifecycle. Compared to the Gixxer, FZ and Hornet, the bike sits pretty. It takes the fight to the Japanese, though the Gixxer is at par or slightly better, the FZ has a completely different character and the Hornet has sales numbers which is far ahead.

The biggest drawbacks for the NS160 are its highest in-class weight and saddle height. Neither is the bike the cheapest of the lot, a 1000 rupees more than the Apache and Gixxer, but significantly cheaper than the Hornet and FZ Fi. In terms of pure motorcycle, the Gixxer is the biggest competition, in terms of sales; the Hornet poses a stiff challenge. Will the NS160 manage to rattle the segment? We eagerly wait and watch!

CBR250R HandleBar Modification for Touring

Hello Xbhpians,

This is my very first article on this awesome website. I am not much of a writer so I am going to share what I had done on my bike so it can help other Honda CBR owners to perform this mod.

I had recently owned 350cl but due to its lack of speed and vibrations I had to part off with it and buy a much quicker one with reasonable budget in hand. Ended up buying second hand cbr250r and I absolutely in love with it.

Since I am looking forward to go on touring with it, one of the major downside I faced was with its clip-on handlebar which created lot of strain in my wrist and shoulder. The fact I wasn’t much of a frequent rider created a challenge to get used to the ergonomics of this bike.

After watching many youtube videos I found one youtuber (IronHolik)who had performed the handle bar swap and I ventured out to go ahead and do the same.
And I swear the result of the sitting posture is awesome. You now sit more upright and do not strain your wrist and there is no vibration even at 130 speed.

Below are some pics which can guide those who want to do the swap. Enjoy :)
