Help needed regarding LBT to buy gixxer

$

Hello guyz,

This is my first thread herein xBHP. I was following this thread since long http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...xer-155-a.html and decided to go for Gixxer.

I have moved from Virar (Thane) to Goregaon (Mumbai) recently. I have visited authorized suzuki showroom in Ghatkopar (Mumbai) today and inquired about pricing. He told me something like this....

OTR Price for MH-48 (Yes i want Vasai-Virar RTO bike as i dont have address proof of current mumbai address) registered vehicle would be 87000/- (bcoz no octroi, though this amount includes fee for transport of vehicle to Vasai for registration ) Accessory Helmet & Grip Cover only. No Saree Guard as mentioned in suzuki website.

I called Suzuki Showroom located in vasai, he gave me quotation like this

OTR - 88000/- This price look somewhat weird to me as it should be around 85500/- as mentioned in suzuki website or as per bikewale. Accessory including Saree Guard, Leg Guard, Teflon Coating, Seat Cover, Parking Light but no helmet. Sales guy told me prices is high because of LBT.

I want to know whether this LBT really exists in Vasai area ? Which option should i go for ? Getting bike from Mumbai with Vasai RTO passing or Directly from Vasai. Hope someone from near by area can throw some light on this topic.

Mods : i am unsure about in which thread should i post this question, if you want you can move these post to respective thread.

Thanks.

Ride to Goa

Goa is a state of mind.

This statement, borrowed from internet, says a lot about the beautiful coastal state in western India. Amazing people, delicious cuisine, plenty of sunshine, excellent roads, green forests and beautiful beaches are some of the reasons why Goa is one of the perfect holiday destinations.

In November 2014 my brother after a long struggle managed to convince his girlfriend’s parents for their wedding. Date of engagement was set in January 2015 and to celebrate this we decided to ride to Goa. It was impossible for him to take leaves since he had just started with a new job. This left us with only two days of weekend for the ride. We wanted to spend a full day in Goa hence decided to leave during the Friday afternoon after office.

It was still Tuesday and the time was passing at incredibly slow pace. After what felt like eons Friday arrived. Left office at noon grabbed couple of burgers from KFC and headed straight for home. Brother reached after two hours and even after hurrying up could manage to leave for Goa at 3 pm only.

Starting the journey.

Our destination was Palolem in South Goa and we decided to take the Belgaum- Chorla ghat route. Half of our journey would be at night so we decided to ride the highway till Belgaum covering maximum distance at higher but safe speeds.

Loaded the bikes, bullet had the claw and another bag pack of top of it. With around 55 litres of capacity of Claw both our stuff was packed easily in it with still space left for more. Fueled up and took the Pune Bangalore highway quickly covering the distance with the exception of the Khambataki ghat were traffic was moving at snail's pace.

Stopped for chai at Wele just after Khambataki Ghats.

The highway had heavy traffic and our going was slow. Plan was to reach Kohlapur right after sunset but saw the sun going down right after Satara only.
Met this trucker at a tea stall who started the conversation related to our gear and how our vests had similar reflective properties as his trucks's numerous reflective strips. He was drving alone to Bangalore from Ahmedabad. After chatting for a while we wished safe journey to the fellow traveler and headed towards Kohlapur.

By the time we reached Nipani it was already dark. Stopped for dinner here, had couple of vada pavs along with a cup of coffee and pushed ahead to Belgaum.

At Nipani

The traffic had now started to thin out. We increased our pace. Had some scary moments with trucks coming at us from the wrong side of the road headlights at full beam and motorists merging dangerously at intersections. Plenty of dogs as roadkill further wracked our nerves. One of those under our front tire and it will definitely be the end.

Dodging all that we entered Belgaum city at around 11 pm and refueled. Asked for directions and headed to to Chorla

Hero Glamour -- White smoke from the exhaust

My glamour is nearly 2 Years old, 21500 kms on the ODO. I went to the ASC for a normal paid service and told them about the bad fuel efficiency i am getting (~45 kmpl). They checked and revved the engine hard in my presence, and i could se some black smoke from exhaust on very high revs. They said they will take care of it and the mileage and i can check the mileage with them in the evening after the service. When i went to the ASC in the evening to take the delivery, the mechanic said that there is very light white smoke now at high revs, and they have taken care of the black smoke. When i asked the reason for the white smoke, they said it happens and they didn't gave me a reason for it. Now they are suggesting a half engine job (as they say it) to rectify the white smoke. I cannot observe the white smoke myself, they said they saw it very light at high revs. My bike is under warranty, they are going to charge me around 1k for parts not under warranty. My query is, how can that issue with the engine happen when i got the bike serviced regulary, ensured proper run-in etc. Yes the bike has been abused very occasionally, like touching the 100kmph mark once in a few months.
And, what parts will be replaced, and i'm worried if the engine would be normal after that half engine job ( all i know about it is they were speaking something about a block change )

I am Pranav from Pune, currently living in Navi Mumbai. Though been a member of this forum never had anything to post about. Earlier I had a Honda Shine ( courtesy accidents on activa during college) . Always wanted to go on rides but the shine would never go beyond 70 vibrate like hell after 60 so restricted to city commute only. Sold that after coming to Mumbai for higher studies. Now after getting job have got a used P180 from a cousin 2010 model. Have started with Pune Mumbai rides on weekends. Looking forward to start touring ( depending on office work :( )
Feels great riding a bike again [emoji2]

Its summer time, the holiday season, the schools are closed and most everybody are looking for a destination to head to. For us though, our “compass” points to just one direction…GOA ! It’s been this way for many years now, almost like a ritual, heading out to our favorite hangout. Many would wonder whether we tire and get bored going to the same place year after year, but for us it’s the familiarity that makes it special, the nostalgia, the many meetings with friends, truly a second home for us.

Day 1: Get up & Goa !

Route: Bangalore/Tumkur/Hiriyur/Chitrdurga/Davangere/Harihar/Hubli/Yellapur/Ankola/Karwar/Palolem/Madgaon/Majorda. (662 km)

The pre ride preparations have become routine over the years, but every ride is new, special and exciting in its own way. A longer stay means careful planning to pack our saddlebags. It has to be just right. There’s just so much load our little Zeus can carry, brave as she is. Finally we are done; one more double check and we wind up for the night.

Another restless night to go through before the dawn ride off! Finally its morning and time to head out on to the highways we love so much.

Just as we reach Yeswanthapur we meet a large group of bikers riding out. They tell us they are riding to Belur Cross, waves and thumbs ups and diverge at Nelamangala.

The unflinchingly straight NH4 has become so familiar to be almost boring but it’s the quickest route to get to Goa. We stop at joint near Hiriyur for breakfast and continue on. The heat hits you when you stop and we can’t wait to ride on.

Hubli by pass and on to Yellapur road. Once off the NH, traffic thins out and the road narrows down but it’s a good road and the forest section is a pleasure to ride.

Not many places to eat on this route and we had packed our lunch. We pull over at a cool spot and have a highway lunch, biker’s joy!

A short while later we pass the Sea Bird project and Karwar and then as we reach the Karnataka border and cross over into Goa it’s the old familiar jubilation and thrill of the days to come.

Coming up: Goa Again !

Hello XBHPians!

Hi folks,

This is Saleem, a 36 year old from Hyderabad and someone who's trying to reclaim the lost passion for motorcycling. It all started when I was gifted a Hero Puch, when I was still in Intermediate. Later when I was doing my MBA (in 2001), I got the very popular splendour, yes again a gift from my parents. With Splendor, it was good fun in college as we regularly used to go for bike rides to various places around Hyderabad. It was all good with motorcycling, till I got married to my sweetheart in 2007 who then gifted me a Unicorn as she too enjoys riding with me. Unfortunately I did not utilize the bike much due to the new found fascination for cars, for practical reasons of course.

I was working out of Hyderabad for the last 4 years and that was when I rediscovered the joy of biking, especially since me and some of my colleagues were staying away from our families and so during the weekends we developed a hobby for photography and we rode to some really interesting places to hone and improve our photography skills. That is when I realized what I was missing and how I had fallen into the trap of comfort and convenience of the cars not realizing how my body and soul craved to be free and open on a bike instead. Now that I'm back to Hyderabad, after almost 8 years of married life, I want to reignite my passion for biking and for that I recently got myself a Duke 200. I've always been an outdoor person and I see this as a great opportunity to be a part of this esteemed forum and learn a lot about motorcycling (and probably photography as well :p).

I'm not very technical person, in terms of understanding bikes so I will contribute as much as possible to this forum in other ways possible by sharing my knowledge of traveling to different places as I have travelled well, especially in South India. Also, I hope I'm not too old to take part in rides organized by this community. :) I look forward to meeting most of you and learn and enjoy as much as possible.

Cheers,

Saleem.

[Photo Feature]: The Perfect Storm - My first 500kms round trip : Maithon / Garpanchkot

Being relatively new to the world of touring, I was yet to test the capabilities of my backside to stay planted on a motorcycle seat for a long(ish) run. The only previous 150kms + run from my city Calcutta being the ride to Shantiniketan which was a winter ride totalling 350 odd kms, which although brilliant did take a serious toll on me due to the heavy backpack / clothing and complete lack of riding gear. So I waited and waited for four extremely long months before I was prepared mentally as well as gear wise to embark on my next road trip. And then it happened...............

The Maithon / Garpanchkot tour came out of a random ride discussion I was having with my biker buddy / ace photographer - Debarshi. After much debate on whether we should do this trip duing the extremely harsh summer we are experiencing this year, we decided to go ahead irrespective if whether it still burning or not on the last weekend on May. And so the planning commenced and our machines were prepped up for the run, with Debarshi on his CBR 250R and I on my FZ16. I also ordered the Viaterra Claw Mini saddle bag just before the trip to ensure I did not have another backpack nightmare and it proved to be absolutely vital to my ride condition considering the torrid heat wave and humidity which was running amok. Debarshi also picked up a pair of new gloves and knee protectors and we were all set for trip.

To try and minimise our exposure to the sad summer conditions, we left our respective places as soon as the first rays of light fell on our bikes :o. Our route: The NH2 (Delhi Road) is a tourers' dream come true. Miles after miles of perfect tarmac interrupted only by the arrival of towns we had to cross: Durgapur and Asansol and that particular nightmarish checkpost (Chirkunda) just before you take a right turn for Maithon. We needed a few watering breaks apart from the breakfast halt in Durgapur to ensure we did not pass out or something from dehydration and finally arrived at Maithon around 10 am.

This place, famous for the colossal Dam and massive resultant lake, seems to have a weather system of its own. We were greeted by a pleasant windy (and sunny!) climate which soon transformed into the most insane dark cloud formation and lightning storm with gale force winds. And yes, it rained too!! :D. I cannot possible describe in words how it all looked to here are some photos!

The first generation Honda Unicorn 150 was launched as Honda’s flagship product which gave them a green single to go ahead in Indian motorcycle industry after its split with Hero.

The prime reason for its discontinuation is presence of same capacity bikes under one roof along with new CB Unicorn 160. They might just don’t want bikes from its own stable competing against each other.
