Daniel Kish lost his eyesight to cancer at the tender age of 13 months. He had retinal cancer because of which he lost his sight. But as he grew up he started making a clicking noise with his tongue. He used this sound to help him navigate. Now after 47 years, he has mastered the art of the 'clicking sound' where he is capably of navigating safely through traffic on his cycle! He has started a group, World Access for the Blind, where he teaches others how to navigate with the help of clicks. A truly inspiring man, and I had to share this with others in xBhp.
What is it like riding a bike using echolocation?Its thrilling but requires very focused and sustained concentration on the acoustics of the environment. I click as much as twice per second, way more than I usually do.
