The result sees the gap at the top of the championship close to just one point, with Rossi still leading the way. Dani Pedrosa crossed the line third to complete the podium. Andrea Iannone was the highest placed Ducati, finishing in fourth ahead of Britain's Bradley Smith. Marc VDS Honda rider Scott Redding equalled his best ever finish, crossing the line in seventh place, behind Suzuki rookie Maverick Vinales.

Jorge Lorenzo said:

"The conditions were difficult as it was very hot, Valentino likes these conditions and performs better but it is the opposite for me. The bike was moving a lot but I didn't make any mistakes and the hard work paid off."
World champion Marc Marquez's poor season continued as he failed to finish for the second successive race, crashing out on the third lap while challenging Lorenzo for the lead. He was the only rider to come close to Lorenzo, but the factory Honda rider ran wide and fell in the gravel trap after nearly hitting Lorenzo.

Valentino Rossi said:

"This time I was happy with the bike. Starting on the third row meant that I lost time but I am pleased with my race and my speed was equal to Jorge's today and so now after seven races there is only one point between us so it should be interesting”.
