HI Guys,
This is my first post on xBhp.
I am looking for new bike and am pretty confused right now with the present lot, Have some options in mind and will be listing them down below. Also the things that I am looking forward in a bike and my details will be listed down below.
This will be a pretty long post so please bear with me …
Details,
Height : 5 foot 11inches
Age 25
Purpose: Daily commute (15-20 kms total) and occasional long rides(once in a month rides within 100 km one way)
City of residence : Bangalore(please keep the traffic in mind)
Budget : within 1.5 Lakh(+-50K buffer)
Present ride : Apache rtr 160

Options :
1: Yamaha R15 : The first thing that came into my mind when I started looking for a new bike. But the V2.0 is almost 3 years old now and the pillion seat is a turn off, also I am looking for a bike with more power than my current ride. I know the numbers are the same when comparing the specs but on the road it’s a completely different thing, still want some expert opinion on that. I might sound silly, but are there any negative points about the R15 except the rear seat..
2:Thunderbird 350 : Are the stories about a RE’s affinity towards heavy maintenance true?? Stories about oil spills and leakage and regular loosening of parts is what is keeping me away .Also I have no knowledge about the type of after sales service provided by RE.
3:Karizma ZMR 2014: This one is pulling me a lot towards it and I frequently find myself coming back to this option. But I have read that the new ZMR is not that smooth as the previous version and there are harsh vibrations above 4.5k rpm and the fit and finish is also not upto the mark which results in loosened fairing and other stuff. If any current owner of the 2014 model could give their inputs on the above stuff, it would be helpful. Also if anyone could give the cost associated to replace or repair the fairing in case of a crash. Is it wise to get a ZMR or wiser to put in 15K more and get the R15??
4: CBR 250R : The best combination of everything I want in a bike .The only thing keeping me away Is its age.Rumors of a CBR300 are afloat and I am sure I will fall deep down into depression if Honda decides to launch a new version after I purchase the old model. Any news on the new model will be appreciated.
5:KTM RC twins : Gorgeous is the word that comes to my mind when I think of these twins. But the dedicated seating position is what people warn me about. Bangalore traffic and the seating position of the bike will become the cause of a lot of back pain is what I have been warned about, also if anyone could tell me about the amount of vibrations and the real time fuel efficiency of these bikes.
6:KTM duke twins : Too common and too upright seating position for my liking. Something even I am not sure what fails to connect me to the bike. I just can’t connect to it.(Still its one of the options because of the sheer pulling power it offers)Any info on the vibrations and pillion comfort will be very useful.
8:Suzuki gixxer/Gixxer SF : IF nothing else works out, these are the bikes I will be going for and save money for a Yamaha R25.

Requirements:
1: Staying as far away from vibrations of any kind. I ride an apache and I don’t want my new bike to be a vibrating machine on 2 wheels. Engine refinement is top most priority.
2: I am not looking for a smashing top end or sorts. Just a comfortable mid range without engine feeling strained is what I am after. Comfortable highway cruising with a relaxed engine will be a big plus.
3:I will again stress on the mid range .Considering Bangalore traffic the bike should be an able handler and should have enough punch to keep things interesting on the road.
4: Fuel Efficiency of anything around 40kmpl is fine.
5: Pillion comfort should be good.
Since no bike is perfect, I am willing to compromise on any one of the requirement if the rest are satisfied.
(PS : no pulsars please and any advice on how(what all to look out for) to get a good used Ninja 250 will be very much appreciated)
Thank you for your patience.
