Hi All,
Starting this thread as any RD deserves to have her story told separately. Here it goes -
I returned from the US after a 5 year stint and find my Yezdi sold of, CBZ screwed up by a relative beyond recognition. The RD (Cupid) started to show her age and was in need for a cosmetic make-over. So I embarked on a journey to buy a new Yezdi and restore the CBZ and get the RD engine running right and do up the cosmetic later. Since 2012, I was able get a new Yezdi, patched up the CBZ, bought an Kawasaki Enduro, a Bobby Rajdoot and 1962 Enfield (both these beauties are still waiting for their turns to shine).
Finally when all the other bikes were done up, the hunt for spares for the RD began. During the process a lot of stuff was purchased (2 sets of Cylinders, pistons, crank, exhaust, carbs, reeds, Ottoco heads and whole loads of goodies). I had also bought an RD engine way back in 2006 from my mechanic (Never realised that 9 years later it would transform into a 2nd RD).
Come 2014, the RD I had goes for a strip-down and due to the nature of my build all the parts on the bike are something that are not needed anymore. (The funny thing is..since 2005 my mech. kept adding parts to my RD never telling me from which bike they came from).
Tried selling them off on different forums with little or no luck ( ppl want to buy stuff for peanuts). That's when I had decided in my mind what I will find a decent or scrap RD and fix these parts on her and patch her up. Had a few hits and misses and could never find an RD for the right price. Heres a funny story -
Me Any scrap RD available? Just the chassis engine and papers will do?
Other Guy Scrap RD for 1.5 lacs
Me Itne paise nahin hain..
Other Guy -"RD ka shaukh mat karo if you don't have money for it".
Me "Sleeved and Faridabad waali spares RDs ko RD ka shaukh karna nahin bolte hain...its called waste of money".
Never heard from him again :P
Cut back to 13th Feb, 2015 - My original bike Cupid was being assembled piece by piece. That night when having a late night cutting chai and seeing all the parts lying around (These were slowly scavenged from the bike I bought over the years) I asked my mech. the story about the engine he had sold me in 2006 and what about the Chassis and the paper work and other spares.
He tells me the story of how in 1995, he had bought an RD from a friend who unfortunately died before he could transfer the bike. Over the years he had given the same engine to me and plugged in lot of spares from that bike on my original RD Cupid. Something just hit me, where is the Chassis and papers (does he have the forms and all).
There came a curt reply saying that the Chassis is lying around in one corner and that he has the copies of the paperwork. I really felt that we should reach out to the RTO. Decide to call up the agent in and tell him to find details on the MZZ 8834 bike.
Have a few more cups of tea and smokes and go back to bed.
Valentines day, 2015
Mech. call me around 10am and heres how the call went.
Mech. - Agent called and he found the details.
Me - And ..
Mech The bike can be transferred because the owner is alive!!
Me WHAT ..HOW WTF!!! ..
Mech Stop asking so many questions, get ready Im coming to pick you up we going to Buldhana
I jump out of bed and quickly run out for a smoke and hit the loo. Brush my teeth, comb my hair and we are on our way to Buldhana. After 2 hours of driving at non-existest roads, butts sores we reach Buldhana and call up the agent. He shows up and tells us the original owner is alive and he is the first owner!!!
He then calls up the owner who lives 40kms from Buldhana in a place called DHAD. We meet the original owner of the bike and to our lucky surprise my mech. and the bike owner know each other pretty well.
We tell him that we had bought his bike from a guy and he had died before we could transfer it. The original owner agrees to do transfer the bike as a favour. We pay him 7k for the paperwork and 3k for his generosity.
In 2 weeks we got the NOC and RC book and all the bike is currently being assembled!!!!! On our way back.. I was on the moon and me and mech just kept laughing
As of now, she's being assembled as we speak. She will go in for paint along with my original bike Cupid.
Cheers,
Zohaibak
