Hello All,
This is my first post in xbhp.
My wife and myself wanted to do a bike trip from a long time. After many discussions and searching over net for a place suitable for single day bike trip on 7th March 2015, we decided the destination to be our heritage capital Mysore.
But now the question started, what to see in Mysore. Because we all have been there atlease 50 times in our lives. Thought of visiting places which we had never visited and made a list. The first one is Ranganathittu Bird Sanctury, Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery also known as Jaganmohan palace, Sand art museum and finally chamundi betta. So we fixed the plan and with lot of excitement went to sleep.
The alarm rang exactly at 5.30am. But we were already awake before the alarm rang. My wife prepared delicious but simple lemon rice for me for breakfast as I don't eat much outside. Cleaned the house quickly and we both got ready and locked the house door at 8.30am. It was slightly chilly morning. Started my thumper, ya that's right.....My biggie buddy thunderbird with my backpack and my camera kit....
The immediate target is to pass city area ASAP. So from Kammanahalli(Thats my place) took this road...
Kammanahalli-> Hebbal-> Gurguntepalya-> Thumkur road NICE road-> Then hit to kengeri
Travel Time: 45mins.
Was happy that I could avoid inner city traffic completely. Then our road was ruled by our thumper. The real head turner. We passed Bidadi in no time and then passed chennapatna. Took a break there. Had delicious watermelon road side. Again hit the road. Reached our destination Ranganathittu by 12noon.
Luckily the place was less crowded. Took a boat ride ticket(Rs 50/- each) and were waiting for our turn. Here are some tips and info about the place.
Timings: 8am to 6pm.
Luchbreak: May be from 1:30 to 2:30pm
Duration of boat ride: 15mins to 45mins. (45mins if you are willing to pay extra Rs50/- per head to the boat rider)
Best time to visit the place: January to June every year. Avoid post monsoon till Dec.
Also for best photography, try to visit by 8 or 9 am.
Me and my wife had a wonderful experience there. Saw atleast 7 to 8 varieties of birds. hundreds and hundreds of each. The mesmerizing view of water, birds and green combination makes you speechless. We took atlease 500 photos and had really hard time to filter the images. Few varieties of birds that I remember are Painted Stork
Asian Openbill Stork
Common Spoonbill
Black-headed Ibis
Indian cormorant
egrets
cormorants
black crowned night heron
blue fly catcher

After the ride and lots of photography we were completely exhausted. Had a delicious food inside the park itself. Good taste and low price.
Now time was ticking at 4pm. We were late. Had 3 more destinations to cover in mind. Then started and reached the next place that's Jaganmohan palace. It was 4:30pm. Took 2 tickets to the art gallery. 40 bucks per head. Closing time is 5:30pm. quickly rushed in. No much tourists were there, other than some french guys. The original art of Ravivarma are displayed here, They are truly awesome. Some were too realistic and attractive. took complete 1 hour to finish full rounds in the gallery. Then took some rest out side and then rushed to sand museum in chamundi road. We thought we had no chance of seeing the place. But for our surprise, the place was still open. When enquired got to know that it will be open till 6:30pm.
The sand museum is the first of it's kind in India, Interesting fact is that it is done by a single girl with 115 truck load of sand. The place is still new in Mysore and less known to outside people. The sand art covered many varieties of concepts and finest details of art. Truly astonishing and a must visit place in Mysore.
After this we headed towards chamundi betta. It was almost getting dark. To our surprise the temple was very less crowded. Did the darshan in 5 mins. Took a break having some corns, bhel puri...
Left the place by 7:30pm and headed back to bangalore. It was almost 11:30pm when we reached home. Had to take 1 day rest to get rid of body pain.
Trip meter: 360kms
