I'm wondering whats happened to Ducati's in India, I live in Vietnam btw so I don't know whats going on locally for you guys. I've done searches but there isn't much ownership threads regarding 795's or Duc's. From what I read there were some delays in getting bikes, dealership issues as well. Has all that been sorted out or there is no Ducati in India now?
I've had my 795 since end of Feb 2013. I used to have a 2011 FZS that I modified out to 200cc.
My Monster has also followed down the path of modifications, though not the same HP seeking path, More customising and getting it more comfortable for me both visually and ergonomically.
I'm 6ft tall, 100kg. The 795 isn't really made for people my height and weight so I would get cramps up the outside of my thighs and hips. They would get so bad I would have to stop the bike, get off and stretch out before getting back on, Thankfully that wasn't too often. On the other hand, my FZS was actually taller seat wise than the 795.
My Monster.
My first mods were the Scotts Steering Dampener, Tail Chop and LED Combo Brake Light.
Steering dampener is not really required on the Monster, however the roads in Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City are not exactly smooth, so it does come into its own. When I changed to upgraded brake pads on the front's was riding around with the brakes slightly on, to try and help bed them in quicker. It had started to sprinkle with rain and I had the front brakes on, rode over the white painted Zebra crossing/ Pedestrian crossing when the front wheel locked up, Before I can react the front end was starting to slide out from under me, Sliding to my left. I still had the throttle rolled on but my bars were still straight. I rolled off the throttle and the bike righted itself and carried on. I put that save to the steering dampener. Without it the bars would have turned and I would be writing about how to repair a dropped Monster and my injuries.
The tailchop was pretty much straight forward, though there was a point of no return after having to cut the factory plastic under the seat. No problems re-routing the seat release cable that some members on a monster forum encountered. Downside to it was there was a lot of spray being flicked up off the back wheel when I rode on wet roads or in the rain, I try not to go out on the wet roads too much, Makes the bike dirty and I like to keep my "Garage Queen" looking clean at all times:o
Next mod was the exhaust. I could have been a sheep like 90% of 795 owners in Vietnam and gone with the factory Termi carbon slip on's, ECU (programmed for what country and their fuel is a mystery???) and K&N airfilter. I wasn't too keen on under seat cans. I kept burning my calf when I would swing my leg over and in my opinion the under tail section looked too cluttered, Not to mention the exhaust pipes didn't really look that pleasing to me and even less pleasing due to the exhaust valve and the terrible welding dags on the internals of the exhaust, So I went for a under swingarm exhaust.
There is a company in Italy called Quat Design. They make exhausts mainly for italian bikes. They have a particular muffler I was very interested in (after it grew on me) called the "Ex Box" Basically its a "box" with inlet on top and front (similar to the ducati L engine) with chambers directing the exhaust gas, eventually leading to 2 exhaust ports out the side. Its a very unique looking muffler, Not to mention its VERY LOUD. There is a block off plate that closes off 1 exhaust port, reducing the noise level down to pass the limits required to ride around on the streets under Euro 3 rules. Screw that. Its a Ducati, Its supposed to be loud :biggrin:
