Hello,

An interesting incident that took place today Its a bit lengthy but interesting.
As I am looking to buy a new bike for myself, I went to the TVS Motor Company's showroom named, Guru Nanak TVS in Amritsar.today to have a test ride of their Apache RTR 180cc ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) version bike. Here is the conversation that happened there. I am translating this in English for most of the friends to understand (actual conversation was in Punjabi)

Executive 1: Hello sir, how can I help you?
Me: I am looking for a test ride of your Apache 180 with ABS
Executive 1: Have a seat sir.
(I sat opposite him with Executive 2 sitting beside him, doing some paper work)
Executive 1: Sir, when are you planning to buy the bike?
Me: Within 2 weeks.
Executive 1: Ok, actually sir, the person who assists in test rides is not here right now so the test ride can not be conducted.

Me: (with obvious surprise on my face) When he is going to be around?

Executive 1: It'll take time sir. (his expressions said, "No Test Ride.")
Me: Look, I have come from very far to this TVS showroom, apart from the newly opened one (the owner is same though), where I had just gone and was directed to this showroom as they did not have the Apache 180 ABS bike with them for test ride.

Executive 1: Oh, you have come from that showroom. Sir, wait for 2 minutes.

Executive 1 whispered to Executive 2: He has come from that showroom, we should arrange test ride.
Executive 2 said something back which I could not hear.

Executive 1 to an employee (middle aged man in t-shirt and pants with Slippers on his feet): He has come for a test ride of Apache 180. The employee nodded and went in the direction where he was already going.

After a while he came back and said to Executive 1 "Ask him (some other
employee) about petrol."
Executive 1: You ask!
Employee: Ask Vikas (not remember what he actually called him) to ask him about petrol.
Executive 1: Go and ask him, he is going out!
Employee went after someone which I did not turn back to see who he was and again came back telling someone else to ask about petrol.

In my mind I was like.... What the hell is going on??!! I am waiting for a test ride and they are deciding about petrol to fill in the bike.

The employee came back and stood near a row of RTR Apaches and asked
Executive 2: Which one? (which one is RTR Apche 180cc)
Executive 2: 180 (I was wondering all the time)

Employee, standing with his hand over an Apache bike, to me: Sir, which colour do you like? ( I was like what in the world colour has to do with a test ride of the bike??)
Me: Colour doesn't matter. Just take an Apache RTR 180 with ABS.
The employee nodded and went away. I noticed that the bike on which he stood keeping his hand was a non ABS version ( as ABS was not mentioned on the side of the bike)

Me to Executive 2: Is this a 180 ABS version? (now here comes bomb)
Executive 2: No sir its 180 and its the same.
Me: How come it is same?
Executive 2: Sir, it is same like the ABS version when you drive it.
Me: But its not same when you stop it! Is it?
Executive 2 smiled and looked towards me as if I was joking and said, "Its same sir."
I said I want a test ride of Apache 180 with ABS as I wanted to see how ABS work.

Employee 2 said, " Tell me if you want a test ride of this or not." I was shocked at his behaviour and response and I said of course I don't want a test ride of this non-ABS version. He immediately shouted at the person who had gone to ask for petrol, "Come back, he doesn't want to take a test ride!"

I was like "How Pathetic!"

Employee 1 came back and asked me why I did not want the test ride now and I explained that I want it with ABS. He said they don't have that bike with them. (I was feeling irritated and was thinking why on first place they could not tell me this)
I asked them when I could expect it for a test ride and you know what he said?
He said, sir you can book the bike and then we can arrange it here. At that moment I felt like getting up immediately, never to go back to that place again. I mean you are telling me to book a bike for buying and then take a test ride?!! Have you lost it completely??
I explained to them that as far as I know TVS is the first Indian manufacturer to have introduced ABS in their bike for extra safety and for that particular reason I came to take a test ride of this particular model while making a decision to buy a new bike and you are telling me that ABS and non ABS version are same in riding!
he said, "Sir its upto you to decide."
I asked them to give me a call if at all it becomes available within two weeks for a test ride. With almost no interest at all he finally did what I said and noted my contact number. A BIG NO for the TVS Motor Company showroom Guru Nanak TVS, Putlighar, Amritsar from now on!

--END--

If this is the way TVS is going to treat its customers then Almighty knows where they are heading.
