Two-wheeler sales dovetail cars, increase 14% in June.
India's two-wheeler makers posted higher sales numbers for June, continuing on their impressive performance in an overall auto market that has been on a downhill drive for about two years but has now started showing signs of a pickup.
Hero MotoCorp, the world's largest twowheeler maker by volume, sold 541,594 units in the past month, an 8% gain from a year earlier. It also commenced production at its fourth factory at Neemrana in Rajasthan. With the commissioning of this plant, which has an installed capacity of 750,000 units, Hero Moto Corp now has a total annual installed capacity of 7.65 million units. At Chennai-based TVS Motor domestic sales grew 23 per cent to 168,521 units in June.
Its scooters sales jumped 46 per cent to 56,524 units, while motorcycles sales grew 27 per cent to 74,772 units on the back of recently launched StaR City+ bikes. The company also makes threewheelers and mopeds. Pune-based Bajaj Auto on Wednesday reported a cumulative 3% increase in motorcycle sales at 2,62,202 units, which include exports.
The trend wasn't limited to the regular commuting two-wheeler market, as niche bikes also maintained a similar tempo.
Royal Enfield, which makes the Bullet motorcycles, recorded its best ever monthly sales of 24,519 in June, an 84 per cent increase over the same month last year.
The company exported 784 bikes in the past month. The two-wheeler segment's strong performance comes after car makers posted a second straight month of higher sales. While the cars market has just started signaling a positive turnaround, the two-wheeler segment has been performing well with sales consistently rising for the past two years, driven by demand for Scooters.

NEW DELHI: The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero Moto today reported 7.82 per cent increase in sales at 5,41,594 units in June 2014. It had sold 5,02,279 units in the same month last year, the company said in a statement. During the first quarter ended June 30, 2014, the company sold 17,15,129 units of two-wheelers, an increase of 9.99 per cent compared with 15,59,282 units sold in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, it added. Hero MotoCorp said it has commenced production at its fourth manufacturing plant at Neemrana in Rajasthan and also started dispatch from the plant to the market.

NEW DELHI: Chennai-based TVS Motor Company today reported 23 per cent jump in total sales at 2,02,177 units in June 2014. It had sold 1,64,128 units in the same month last year, the company said in a statement. Total two-wheeler sales grew by 23 per cent to 1,93,758 units last month as against 1,57,351 units in June last year. Domestic two-wheeler sales stood at 1,68,521 units last month, up 23 per cent, from 1,37,331 units in the year-ago period, it added.
Scooters sales during the month rose by 46 per cent to 56,524 units, as against 38,684 units a year ago. Motorcycles sales increased by 27 per cent to 74,772 units in last month as compared to 59,015 units in the corresponding month a year earlier. PUNE: Bajaj Auto registered a 3% increase in motorcycle sales in June 2014 on a year-on-year basis, selling 2.64.202 units as compared to 2.54.544 units in June 2013. Commercial vehicle sales went up by 55 for the same period at 43,263 units in June'14. Exports increased significantly by 12% from 1,20,399 units to 1,35,074 units on a year-on-year basis.For the April-June quarter, exports grew by 22% to 4,41,967 units of total sales numbers of 9,88,430 units in the quarter. Of this, motorcycles comprised 8,74,858 units and commercial vehicles 1,13,572. In keeping with the general slowdown that the sector is witnessing, commercial vehicle sales for the quarter were 5% lower as compared to the corresponding quarter in the previous year.

NEW DELHI: Yamaha Motor India today reported 14.35 per cent increase in domestic two-wheeler sales at 40,666 units in June from 35,561 units in the same month of the previous year.

Mumbai based Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd. (MTWL), part of the USD 16.5 billion Mahindra Group, today announced its sales numbers for June 2014, which stood at 15,463 units. The company’s domestic sales stood at 14,389 units during the month, as against 7,849 units in the previous year, a growth of 83%. Exports for the month stood at 1,074 units.

Suzuki Motorcycle India today reported a 13 per cent growth in total sales at 32,117 units for May 2014. The company's total sales stood at 28,455 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.
Commenting on the sales numbers, SMIL Executive Vice President Atul Gupta said
The company has received a good response from the market for all its products. The growing customer satisfaction has led to positive word-of-mouth in the market. Building on the existing goodwill in the market, we expect that the four products launched at the Auto Expo. The V Strom and Inazuma will also show good performance in the upcoming fiscal," he added.
