“This log has been inordinately delayed”! Our annual Goa holiday ride was sandwiched between too many events this year. A project at Dharwad which had to be completed, a feature on us was coming up in the June edition of the xBhp magazine, so photos to be sent, questionnaires to be answered and then the xBhp “Great India Collectors Ride” was coming to Bangalore and we just had to meet them and all our other friends. All together an eventful and exiting period.
Finally I decided that I at least have to start the log and fill it up as and when.
The Onward Route: Bangalore/Tumkur/Hiriyur/Chitrdurga/Davengere/Harhar/Haveri/Hubli/Ramnagar/Anmod/Molem/Ponda/Majorda.

Just a day after returning from our project work at Dharwad, we get set to ride off to Goa. Wifey had already got most things ready (it’s become really routine for her now!). It’s a two week stay so we have to pack judiciously, there’s a limit to how much we can load our little Zeus, strong as she is, but we also need enough to see us through the fortnight. Luckily we will be staying at our regular homestay and casual is cool in Goa.

So on a cool May morning we head off on the highway, the same one I had just driven back from Dharwad a couple of days back. The difference of course was the minus two wheels, the wind on our face and of course the destination!

The fresh morning air, the joy of two wheels on the highway is a feeling only us biker’s can understand and relish, it also builds an appetite. We stop over at Tumkur for a ‘thatte idly’ breakfast. The stuff is good but the place is insanely crowded in the mornings and can be frustrating at the start of a ride. I would prefer Hotel Naveen at Chitradurga on the highway, much more relaxed and quick.

The NH4 from Bangalore to Hubli as most of us know can even get boring, but it is the quickest route and having done it so many times (on work and holiday) it’s become all too familiar.

We reach Hubli by noon and decide to have an early lunch before continuing. There’s a Punjabi Dhaba near the toll gate before the bypass road which serves decent stuff and we have a light lunch and replenish our water stock before heading out.

A little before Dharwad, we turn off onto the Goa Road and towards Ramnagar and Molem forest. This stretch used to be in a horrible condition for years and most of us avoided it and chose alternate routes. The road is now brand new but there are too many railway crossings enroute which can be irritating.

The Molem forest, though is beautiful and with the new road quite enjoyable to ride through. We soon cross Karnataka into Goa and as always it’s a special feeling, a ‘coming back home’ feeling and anticipation of some joyful days to come !
