MUST READ IF YOU CAN'T SPEND MUCH ON PROTECTIVE GEAR.
Honestly, this jacket was not my first preference while looking for good protective gear. And quite frankly I had to settle for this as all the other jackets I wanted were ridiculously expensive according to my parents, (I'm in college and don't get much pocket money), who are totally against me biking.
So when I came across this armour jacket on the net and saw that it cost just a little over 1k I ordered it right away.
When it arrived, it wasn't really what I expected, or maybe my expectations were set too high for biking gear that costs around 1k.
It's difficult to put on and there's so many straps to adjust, but then again that's just to make sure that it's secure. And getting the right size and perfect fit isn't guaranteed.
But coming around to the protective aspects..
It has armour for every part of your torso and arms and it's probably got more protection than all the mainstream brands that bikers usually go in for.
Protection Review :
From your shoulders to your elbows to your arms, there's HARD and THICK Level 3 armour to protect you in the event of a crash. I'm not sure of the specifics but I think its a blend of hard plastic and fibre.
The chest plates are comparatively less thick but still pretty good.
The armour at the back is where it gets interesting.
It comprises of layered spine protection that folds and flexes with respect to your own spine. It doesn't restrict your movements one bit and by far, it's surely the best spine protection I've seen. Period.
All the armour is lined with soft spongy foam that helps keep you comfortable.
Crash Review:
I've been using this armour jacket for the last 3000+ kms and I've been in one crash and I was fortunate enough to be wearing my armour at the time because I went down pretty hard.
I fell on my right and the armour on my shoulder, elbow and arm took a really bad hit.
I'm sure if I wasn't wearing the armour my shoulder would've broken and the same goes to my arm.
The armour on the arm, that's right below the elbow, cracked. And if you've noticed, most riding jackets don't even have any protection in that area.
In spite of repeated comments saying that my armour doesn't look sturdy and won't hold it did it's job, and I must say it did that job really, really well.
I highly recommend the FOX Armour for those who require cheap riding gear and for those who want to look like a badass futuristic ninja on a bike.
