Hi bikers and enthusiasts

Hello xBHP,

I am a Computer Science Engineer and a MBA. I am a person who takes interest in a lot of things like technology, sports, automobiles, even weapons. I tend to develop a passion for something out of these from time to time, and try to get to the depths of that field. Examples have included photography, table tennis, photo and video editing etc. More than anything else I have been a die-hard gamer and a technophile at heart.

On to motorcycles: My father used to drive a 1975 Yezdi Classic, and my brother and I were fans of the bike. We affectionately called it 'Street Hawk' (wonder how many know about the book and the english series of the 90s :)). Dad was part of an adventure riding team in the late 70s and early 80s, and he had travelled to most parts of India (and Nepal too) on that Yezdi. He went to leh-ladakh, kathmandu, gangtok etc on it. The bike had that characteristic sound which let us know from far, that he was coming home from work (Bokaro Steel Plant), and also alerted pedestrians and others to just give way on the road . And yes, he used to drive fast. On our steel town (Bokaro) roads, he used to rule kind of. The sad thing is that he never let us ride the bike. It was very heavy and had started giving a lot of problems near the end of its days. The kick start used to backfire with a severe jolt and the bike was one of the reasons for dad's bad knees now. He was nearing retirement and due to a dearth of mechanics and proper parts as well as really bad knees, he had to sell it off against our wishes.

Actually, I became interested in motorcycles in the mid of last decade. I learnt to ride on our second bike, a Super Splendor (a far easier and light motorcycle). In 2010, I was fascinated by the powerful Pulsars and I wanted to buy a P220 (advertised as 'the fastest Indian' then). I watched the episodes of MTV Pulsarmania and wanted to do be able to do wheelies at least.
Unfortunately, there was a lot to do in my career yet, which included a plan for higher studies. My parents did not allow me to go for the Pulsar 220.

I rode the Super Splendor to office at Kolkata averaging about 25 kms each day in very heavy traffic. I started following some ownership reviews and travelogues on xBHP sometime around 2012, when I joined PGP (MBA), but did not register. I completed the course this year and got a job at Gurgaon. I have a pre-owned Pulsar 180 UG4 now :D (wanted to go for something bigger like CBR250 but have held myself back due to cash crunch). Recently, I saw one of the travelogues of sunilg "Of Gods and mortals ..." and felt compelled to join xBHP as I wanted to comment/congratulate on that. Now I want to read more about the experiences of xBHPians and learn more about biking from this great Indian forum!

P.S. Really sorry for this long intro (and thanks in case you've read it all :D)
